Transformation IV: Shamanic Sound Experiments


 

June 9–14, 2026, IKFKOS will present the fourth edition of the Transformation festival in Bergslagen and Stockholm. This edition takes a somewhat different direction from the previous ones. The working process revolves around sound, animism and shamanism. The participants ask themselves how contemporary music can draw inspiration and nourishment from these practices. The investigations take place alongside a continued exploration of biofeedback in musical composition and improvisation.

During their stay in Sweden, the participating musicians will collaborate with a Sámi shaman so that they can learn about traditional Sámi traditions. A public events will take place on June 12 at The Outpost and in a Sámi kåta (a Sámi traditional house) outside Riddarhyttan in Bergslagen, in collaboration with Teatermaskinen. Workshops with Swedish musicians will also be held in Stockholm.



As its name suggests, Transformation IV is the fourth iteration of the festival. It forms a part of a series that moves between different geographical locations and investigates different formats. In the spring of 2019, Vision Forum organised the first edition of Transformation in Stockholm. At that time, musicians explored how the body’s own nervous signals, from muscles and the brain, could be used in musical composition and performance. During the festival, composers, musicians, technologists, and researchers came together to investigated the aesthetic potential of using biofeedback in music. The outcome generated a rich flow of new reflections, fresh ideas, emerging research directions, technical innovations, collaborations, and artistic projects.

In the spring of 2020, Vision Forum, in collaboration with the French radio platform P-node, organised the digital online festival Transformation II. In 2024, the third edition was held at various locations in France and Belgium.

To attend the concerts in the kåta on June 12: we will meet at 11:45 AM outside The Outpost and walk/row together to the site. The concerts at The Outpost begin at 7:00 PM. Free entrance.

IKFKOS returns to the Motherland

  IKFKOS will carry out a workshop on a burial mound outside Krokvik, close to Kiruna August 13-18, 2025. The work will focus on examining mankind's connection to nature: to nature that is pulsating inside us and to nature which is sprawling and sprouting around us. Special attention will be paid to reflections about how contemporary Western civilisation breeds insensitivity to the natural vibrations within us and around us. We will reflect on how we, through rationality, have lost the connection to the outside world which is instead shaped by ideas and ideologies. This world view makes us focus on regrets about the past and the future and takes focus from life here and now. New Technology and Sami Culture

  - Welcome to a concert at Teatermaskinen , on September 8 at 20.30 Sami shaman, Jonas Engman will perform in trance together with Per Huttner at Teatermaskinen , on September 8 at 20.30.
